Hello Photoshop

Orientation Quiz

A. What is something that is going well in your life? My Family has been very supportive about me going back to school and it wouldn't have been possible without them. I am very fortunate.

B. What are your specific goals for this class? My goal is to have a career in graphic design so I need to learn Photoshop CS3 to accomplish this. I also do digital photography and art so I am excited to discover what I can do with my photos and art in Photoshop.

C. What was your first experience with computers and imaging technology like? I've been working with computers since I was 10 or 11 thanks to my Dad teaching me. I have always enjoyed working with them; I have formal training in hardware and operating system repair and installation. As far as imaging technology I haven't done much. I have gotten some cool effects on my digital photos using Adobe Elements but what you can do with that is fairly limited and I was basically just experimenting.

D. Do you usually work on a Mac or a PC and why? I have always worked on PCs except once back in 1998 when I worked for an internet startup company and they were all about their MACs. I would like to learn to use MACs and check out OS X, but for now I'm sticking with my PCs. Also I keep hearing about people having problems with Vista but it has worked great for me from the start so not sure what the story is with that. No blue screens of death so that's cool with me.

E. What is your experience level with Photoshop or image editing programs? I've used Adobe Photoshop Elements for editing my digital photos and art but have no formal training in it. As far as Photoshop is concerned I’m a beginner and ready to get started!

F. What is something you liked about your day today? I got an amazing amount of errands done (which relieved a lot of anxiety) and got to spend time with my Mom and Dad who are visiting for the weekend.

G. How do you plan to use what you learn in this class? My goal is to go into graphic web design, graphic software design, and/or photo editing. And I also want to be able to edit my digital photos and artwork.

H. What would make this class go very well for you? I enjoy learning by working with other students at a pace not to slow and not too fast. Instructor feedback, and a clearly laid out schedule and set of expectations are important to me.

I. How do you plan to make this class go very well for you? Keep up with all assignments and deadlines. Attend all meetings. Use the video lessons that come with our text book. Collaborate with other students and the instructor. And of course: practice, practice, practice. J. What do you do for creativity? My photography is my main source of creative inspiration. But I also love to watch movies, mainly documentaries but not just. I read a lot of Hunter S. Thompson and Charles Bukowski. I take walks in the woods just to explore, I go to art exhibitions. I listen to music any chance I get. K. Who are John and Thomas Knoll? They are the brothers who invented and developed the first Photoshop program. "Photoshop 1.0 was shipped in February 1990 after 10 months of development." Source: http://www.storyphoto.com

L. Do you own or have access to a color image scanner? Yes, it's a Cannon MX310, it does high quality color scanning.
